Puppy Vaccinations

Training your puppy’s immune system is just as important as teaching them to sit and stay. Vaccines help the immune system to produce antibodies to help fight off harmful diseases. We start to train your puppies immune system at 8, 12 and 16 weeks, and then again at 1 year.

What vaccinations do you provide to new puppies?

Rabies, Distemper, Parvovirus, Leptospirosis, Lyme, and Bordetella vaccinations.

Why is it important to vaccinate your puppy?

Vaccines are a highly effective way of keeping your new family member protected from harmful and potentially deadly diseases.

At what age should I bring my puppy for their vaccinations?

Puppies should visit us when they are around 8 weeks old for their first set of vaccines.

How should I prepare my puppy for their first vaccination visit?

If possible, please bring all documentation and medical history.

How much do puppy vaccinations cost?

Please call us for a detailed estimate before your first visit. We can give you a basic idea of costs; however, in conversation with your vet, you can tailor a vaccine protocol that works for your new best friend.

Black History & Veterinary Medicine - Dr. Alfreda Johnson Webb (1923-1992)

Today's medical historian of colour is Dr. Alfreda Johnson Webb. Dr. Webb graduated with her DVM with our previous blog star Dr. Hinton, as one of the first female African American veterinarians in the US. Both of these great women were also the first black members of the Women’s Veterinary Medicine Association. She also founded the School of Veterinary Medicine of North Carolina State University. In 1971, she became the first African American woman in the North Carolina General Assembly, serving on many committees including serving as the Chairperson of Minority Affairs, president of the Democratic Women of NC, and a member of the NC Council on Sickle Cell Syndrome.   So you can see despite so many obstacles Dr. Webb was still able to make history and so can we!   Written by: Ashley G, VT   Resources: https://www.medvetforpets.com/black-history-month-2021-black-veterinary-history-makers/ https://www.vetmed.ufl.edu/diversity-inclusion/national-womens-history-month/
