Blood Tests for Cats

October 1, 2019

Bloodwork aids in the diagnosis and staging of disease and also helps us to tailor anesthetic protocols specific to your cat and their needs.

Why are blood tests important for my cat’s health?

At Companion Animal Hospital, we use bloodwork to look for underlying complications with organ function or blood cells. This information is used to determine a treatment plan, tailor anesthetic protocols or postpone surgery. It is essential to have a healthy baseline of blood work that can be used as a reference if an illness is to occur later.

How long does it take to get blood test results?

Bloodwork that is run in our internal lab has a quicker turnaround time for results. Lab work that we need to send to an external lab may take upwards of a few days. Rest assured, when we receive results in-house or externally, they get sent to the doctor right away. As soon as we know, you’ll know!

How should I prepare my cat for their blood tests?

Our accommodating client care specialists can help you prepare your cat for any blood tests recommended by your veterinarian.

How often should blood tests be done?

Annual blood work can help to catch any changes occurring in your fluffy friend. Other factors may call for more frequent blood work, such as blood glucose curves, T4 (thyroid testing), and long-term medications.

Does your hospital perform urinalysis and biopsy?

At Companion Animal Hospital, we are fitted with the supplies to run in-house urinalysis and take biopsies.
